I’m a retired language teacher.

In a village in Hungary.

No. I’ve been too itinerate to register anywhere.

How long have you been a subscriber?

About seven years.

What made you start?

I wanted a counterbalance to the Spectator.

Is the NS bug in the family?

No.

What pages do you flick to first?

Being an oldie, it’s Dr Phil.

How do you read yours?

Preferably in the garden with a glass of something cool.

What would you like to see more of in the NS?

Decent cartoons – though I like Becky Barnicoat.

Who are your favourite NS writers?

Phil Whitaker and Nicholas Lezard.

Who would you put on the cover of the NS?

Lyse Doucet.

With which political figure would you least like to be stuck in a lift?

Viktor Orbán.

Jason Cowley on Southgate.
