See no evil: Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist

Is the Daily Mail the new Cahiers du Cinema?

By Daniel Trilling

A still from Antichrist

The short answer is, of course, no. But Sarah Ditum over at the excellent Paperhouse blog alerts us to a review, by the Mail’s Christopher Hart, of Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist. Searching for a fresh take on the hand-wringing controversy that has surrounded the Danish director’s latest effort, Hart hits on a pioneering new critical method:

I haven’t seen it myself, nor shall I – and I speak as a broad-minded arts critic, strongly libertarian in tendency. But merely reading about Antichrist is stomach-turning, and enough to form a judgment.

Fortunately, the New Statesman’s film critic has seen it, and you can read a more considered take on Antichrist here.
