Why isn’t Caroline Lucas leader of the Green party?

She is the only Green MP, and used to be leader.

By New Statesman

Caroline Lucas led the Green party from 2008 to 2012.

She was elected as the Green party’s first and only MP in 2010, representing Brighton Pavilion. After two years in parliament, she felt other Greens should build a public profile and did not seek reelection as party leader. She was also so busy as an MP that she would have found it difficult to do both jobs.

Natalie Bennett took over the position after winning the leadership election in 2012. The Greens hold elections for their leader and deputy leaders every two years.
