The big media story of the day yesterday was undoubtedly the announcement that James Murdoch is to step down as executive chairman of News International. Almost every paper covered it with some reference to the Leveson Inquiry or the phone-hacking scandal engulfing the company. All but one.
The Sun decided to cover the story completely straight, failing to mention that pesky inquiry until the very last paragraph. In terms remarkably similar to the statement issued by News Corporation, it lauds the younger Murdoch’s new roles within the company. The best part is the photo caption which reads: “Praised… James has new roles”. It only begs the question — praised by who? Except for the Sun, of course.
