Berlusconi draws a blank.

By Staff Blogger

This week saw calls across Europe for the Italian president, Silvio Berlusconi to resign, amid claims that he would be unable to steer Italy out of its dire economic situation. He has dismissed suggestions he should step down, pointing to his €54bn austerity package.

Many fear that the multiple legal trials he is embroiled in — with the charges against him incuding having sex with an underage prostitute, perverting the course of justice, abuse of office and financial offences — are distracting him from the task of running the country.

This picture shows the Italian premier at a press conference earlier this year, mysteriously holding up a blank sheet of paper. What is going on? What is he saying? Answers in the comment box below.
