As the UK and EU continue negotiations on a trade deal, it is crucial to understand the probable shape of their future relationship. Combined with the effects of the pandemic, the impact of Brexit negotiations on future trade and local communities will be significant. On 24 September, the New Statesman virtually convened its annual conference during Labour week, with a series of panel events, interviews and guest speeches from some of the Labour party’s most senior members, as well as business leaders and experts. An online panel discussion and live Q&A, sponsored by UK In A Changing Europe (UKICE), explored these key issues. The discussion brought together chair of the committee on the future relationship with the European Union Hilary Benn MP and director of UKICE Professor Anand Menon, to explore the current and future relationship between the UK and EU.
