Talk of an electoral pact between the Tories and the Lib Dems may persist but not everyone has abandoned their tribal loyalties.
Following last night’s Coleridge by-election, the Lib Dem MP Julian Huppert tweeted: “Cambridge is officially Tory-free. Very satisfying!”
That it was Labour, not the Lib Dems (who finished a poor third), which won the seat off the Tories makes his comments all the more revealing.
Huppert, who has pledged to vote against the planned increase in tuition fees, looks like one for the whips to watch.
