British homes among the worst insulated in Europe

In Britain the average home loses three degrees Celsius of indoor temperature after five hours.

By Ben Walker

Home temperature loss is something almost everyone will experience in the winter months. Across Europe, however, it varies from country to country, and according to a Tado° analysis of 80,000 European homes, the UK ranks bottom.

In Germany, the average home loses one degree of indoor temperature after five hours. This is modelled on the assumption of the inside being 20°C and the outside being 0°C. In France, the average loss after five hours is 2.5°C.

But in Britain, it is 3°C, the highest of all the modelled countries.

Such home temperature loss compares poorly to Norway, where average households lose just 0.9°C after five hours of freezing temperatures outside.

With the UK beset by creaking infrastructure and a severe housing shortage, is it any surprise the quality of household insulation is poor too?
