Greater Manchester Police get heavy with New Statesman writer

An encounter between a New Statesman journalist and the police

By Martin Bright

Regular New Statesman contributor Shiv Malik was this morning visited by Greater Manchester Police in connection with an ongoing investigation.

He was served with a production order to disclose journalistic material, including notes, recordings and a book manuscript concerning radical Islam in Britain. If he refuses he could face criminal charges.

Shiv has written several brilliant pieces for the New Statesman about Islamic radicalism and the terrorist threat and has been consulted by the government on his views.

We at the New Statesman will back him in any action he decides to take.
