Fascism has reared its head in Greece and here are the first ugly scenes. In the video below, Golden Dawn’s henchmen are shown ordering journalists to “rise!” to show their “respect” for the party’s leader. Those who refused were ordered to leave.
Nikolaos Michaloliakos, the leader of Golden Dawn (which sounds like a brand of cereal to me), proceeded to deliver a demagogic rant, declaring that immigrants had turned Greece into a “social jungle”. He dedicated the party’s victories to “all of our brave lads, who wear the black t-shirts with the ancient letters reading ‘Golden Dawn'”.
With his party winning 6.97 per cent of the vote and 21 seats in the Greek parliament, this is, lamentably, only the first we’ll hear of Michaloliakos and his thugs.
