Health and Safety Executive will conduct business spot inspections for coronavirus safety

By Samuel Horti

The Health and Safety Executive will enforce government coronavirus guidelines for businesses through spot inspections, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said.

From Wednesday, all businesses in sectors of the economy that are allowed to open, such as construction and manufacturing, “should be open”, the government said in new coronavirus guidance released today. The government plans to publish rules for making businesses “Covid-19 secure” later this week, although it has not confirmed they will arrive before Wednesday.

“The Health and Safety Executive will be enforcing it, and we will be having spot inspections to ensure businesses are keeping employees safe,” Johnson said in the House of Commons this afternoon.
