How to Solve a Problem Like the Rich?

A New Statesman event.

By New Statesman

With inequality hitting the headlines, the lifestyles of the rich and superrich have become a subject of national debate. Commentators are quick to disapprove of perceived excesses and to presume every high-earner has suspicious tax arrangements.

But would we really be better off without the rich? In the UK, 1% of top-rate tax payers contribute 30% of HMRC’s total tax take. And if the wealthy are a problem, are they to blame or are they a symptom of a structurally unfair society? Either way, what can be done?

Join the New Statesman for a lively debate.

Tuesday 21 April at Conway Hall

Doors open: 6.30pm

Event commences: 7.15 pm
