“Some kind of bard-ass“: Pulp! The Classics imprint takes on Shakespeare

The Pulp! The Classics imprint of publishing house Oldcastle Books will publish its first Shakespeare titles this autumn. And they look awesome.

The new imprint of publishers Oldcastle Books, Pulp! The Classics, will be taking on Shakespeare later this year, following a series of classic novels it has recently given a retro rebrand.

The Bookseller reports today that Ion Mills, the Oldcastle publisher who works with Pulp! cover artist David Mann, said of the decision to tackle Shakespeare:

We’re a pretty small company, there’s not some grand masterplan. We just sat down and thought it would be a good idea. We have visions of hordes of sixth-form students reading a Pulp! Othello . . . so complete delusions of grandeur really. The Shakespeare thing, like a lot of other things in publishing, it’s a gamble. We’ve had quite a few bits of positive feedback but there’s a lot of competition for the classics. The most difficult bit is picking the images for the cover paintings.
