US coronavirus death toll surpasses 70,000

At least 70,115 people in the United States have died as a result of coronavirus, according to data collated by Johns Hopkins University. The figure represents more than 25 per cent of the total deaths caused by Covid-19 around the world.

The US has also reported more cases of the virus than any other nation – with 1,192,119 infections identified.
