Jeremy Corbyn wins backing of 285 CLPs after nominations close

The Labour leader has the overwhelming support of constituency Labour parties.

By Julia Rampen

Jeremy Corbyn has received 84 per cent of nominations from constituency Labour parties in the battle to remain the party’s leader.

Corbyn received 285 nominations while his challenger Owen Smith received 53.

Corbyn’s campaign stated: “We’re really grateful to have received so much support from constituency Labour parties across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“Jeremy Corbyn is the only candidate who can draw on support from Labour members right across our country. These results further suggest that Labour members strongly support Jeremy Corbyn in his bid to remain Labour leader.”
