“I sense the Bank of England is running out of steam, or perhaps motivation”

Business secretary Vince Cable calls for the Bank to take a more dramatic economic approach in an interview with the Observer this weekend. Cable says “a lot depends” on the new governor Mark Carney, and calls for the Bank to consider lending directly to businesses, and set a more explicit target for boosting growth.
