How interest in Line of Duty has reached Game of Thrones-levels in the UK

Line of Duty’s sixth series drew to a close last night in one of the most hotly-anticipated TV season finales ever. Hype around the BBC show has been building steadily ever since it was first aired in 2012, but this year the UK public’s interest entered a different league.

Google Trends data shows that UK search interest around Line of Duty has been roughly twice as high this April compared with April 2019 when the previous series aired, and three times as high when compared to series four. 


This level of search volume puts Line of Duty into heady company, eclipsing the likes of the final season of Breaking Bad and entering the territory of Game of ThronesWhile search volumes for Line of Duty this month are only around half of those achieved by Game of Thrones in its final two seasons, it has reached similar levels in the UK to the HBO epic’s third, fourth and fifth series

There’s as yet no word on whether Line of Duty will return for a seventh series. With interest levels this high, however, the BBC would be foolish to let it go.
