Very gratifying to see Andrew Rawnsley engaging with my Year Zero thesis on Gordon Brown in The Observer on Sunday. Although he took issue with my belief that Gordon Brown will begin with a scorched earth policy, he seemed to accept that he must bring in young blood. I don’t quite see how one works without the other.
At the same time the great Bill Keegan put some flesh on the parallels between Brown and Macmillan in his Observer column.
I am told Gordon’s (alleged) plotting is as nothing compared to Macmillan’s manoeuvring behind Eden’s back for the leadership of the Tory party.
