The government will extend the visas of any overseas nationals who cannot return home because of the pandemic, the Home Office has announced.

The ruling covers anybody whose visa expired after 24 January. The visas will be extended until the end of July.

Anyone in the UK on temporary visas should return home as soon as it is safe to do so, it said.

"No immigration enforcement action will be undertaken during this time" for anyone contacting the Home Office with an expired visa, it said. Some visa requirements, such as sponsors, will be waived for the process.
