He's never one to shy away from controversy, is he?
Mitt Romney has tweeted his birthday wishes to Margaret Thatcher on the occasion of her 87th birthday, calling her a "tower of strength in the cause of liberty".
The US is blessed with courageous friends. Happy Birthday to the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher - a tower of strength in the cause of liberty.
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) October 13, 2012
It's an act that's likely to polarise his support here in the UK - but then that seems to be the way he campaigns in the US, too.

I didn't like Maggie, she did a lot of harm, but she has something horrible so happy birthday.
How is it controversial for a Republican to wish a Conservative happy birthday?
I don't really understand why this has been such a big news story in the British media. Bit embarrassing that anything an American presidential candidate says is massive news in the UK. Wish we had a bit more self-respect.
Funny. Mitt 'zero committment' Romney wishes Maggie 'overcommittment' Thatcher happy birthday. One small justice is the old bat probably doesn't know what day it is or who Mitt is!
Happy Birthday Maggie, one of the true greats, boy do we need you now !
yes Anthony, what the UK needs right now is an 87 year old dementia sufferer.
prat.
Mitt Romney has been sending thousands of US jobs east no wonder he likes Thatcher they are traitors together and he plans a similar fate for the US as Thatcher did for the UK and they deserve a traitors fate.
typical Mitt getting his words all mixed up, he meant greed instead of liberty.
"Happy Birthday, from a Mormon."
She's delighted, I'm sure.
Where's the bust?
