The end for Aidan Burley?

Tory MP reportedly under investigation by French police after attending Nazi-themed stag party.

Aidan Burley's woes continue to grow. The Tory MP, who was sacked as PPS to Transport Secretary Justine Greening after attending an allegedly Nazi-themed stag party, is now reported to be under investigation by French police after an official complaint from anti-racism organisation SOS Racism.

Prosecutors have told Sky News that all of those involved in the Nazi stag night will be questioned, including Burley.

SS uniforms such as the one allegedly hired by Burley for his friend Mark Fournier are illegal in France. Whether or not one agrees with such illiberal laws (a free society should not dictate what its members wear), it's hard to see how he can retain the whip if investigated.

In a statement, he said: "I have not been contacted by the French authorities and I have repeatedly apologised for what was clearly inappropriate behaviour which caused offence to others"

Some years ago, possibly late eighties or early nineties, we were a small group of tourists strolling close to the centre of Bath when a stream of theatre-goers issued forth from a performance of 'The Sound of Music'.
Acting in the hearty manner of a rugby club membership. a number of these patrons accidently surrounded us and several other passers-by.
Most were strapping young men in SS uniform and they were in a jolly mood. Some nuns joined in the general merriment and other members of thedebouched audience fancy-dressed appropriately yodelled and sang songs from the show.
That Rodgers and Hammerstein sure could stage a musical.
