If we don't begin to have an honest debate about the consequences of immigration on wages, working conditions, pressure on public services, etc then we will see a rise of a far right party in this country. The BNP were incompetent, and focused on a single religion which was out of order. However, despite being led by an idiot, they still polled really well in the general election, and remember that in 2007 they won many council seats in Barking and Dagenham, and Stoke on Trent, which are traditional white, working class towns and cities that have been destroyed by immigration.
Unless the mainstream parties start talking about immigration, a new far right party could capture the hearts and minds of the British public.

Sam, without protectionism our living standards in this country and elsewhere in Europe will be irreparably lowered. The influx of cheap Chinese goods has already destroyed our manufacturing base, while we've been swamped with immigrants who have undercut the wages of indigenous workers, whilst also putting pressure on public services and fracturing tight knit communities.

You mention that socialism is "insular and protectionist", and yet the UK Trade Unions have never once spoken out against immigration. In fact trade union leaders are the first to defend immigration, even though it's against their workers' interests. So I don't think socialism, as practised by the UK trade unions is in any way insular. It is so liberal, that they have forgotten their role, which is to represent the white working class.

Conservatism is also not insular or protectionist anymore. After Thatcher, Reagan etc, the so called right have adopted neoliberal extremist free market and free trade policies, to the detriment of the indigenous population of this country.

So you can see why indigenous voters are shunning both the left and the mainstream right, because both accept the dogma of globalisation and free markets, even though both policies have such adverse effects on the white working class.

Surely you can know see why the French are looking at the so called "far right" to give them the sort of economic security and strong communities that they crave for?

Hundreds of thousands of working class people were encouraged to get skilled up in industries that were only being kept alive by state subsidies. When Thatcher came a long and withdrew those subsidies it created an underclass with no transferable skills and who have pretty much lost all aspiration for themselves. Then in the 90s when the economy was doing better (albeit on easy credit) most of those jobs went to immigrants because most of the underclass were unenployable and many had settled for a life on benefits. Because this underclass was left behind we needed those immigrants to keep the economy going.

So we can see that the cause of the plight of the working class today is down to the Atlee government encouraging people to get skilled up in work that had no future, and the Thatcher and Blair/Brown governments for just leaving them to rot and not try to retrain them.

I don't feel it's acceptable to blame immigration for the the destruction cause by Atlee, Thatcher and Blair.

SR819, claiming only white people deserve protection from unions is racist, there are legal british citizens of many races who are fully deserving of those rights.

It's because of liberalism that we've been swamped by immigration, why jobs have been outsourced, and why the living standards of the WWC have dropped significantly. It's because of free trade (another liberal ideology) that our industry has been destroyed.
The BRIC nations are emerging, and the only way to stop them developing is to employ illiberal policies, like trade sanctions against them, halting all immigration from Asia and other protectionist measures. If we don't do that, our country will be destroyed and the indigenous population will eventually become a small minority. Perhaps that what the liberals want after all.

Well, I think France really needs Marine Le pen. Sarkozy and the socialists (in power )have put that country in such a state. insecurity, immigration, unemployment, europe diktat, muslims trying to impose charia rules etc etc... Why is Islam exempt from critical analysis? In Western society, there is no shortage of critics of Christianity. Indeed, no many college campuses it is open season on anything that has the faint odor of Western Civilization Christianity included even though Christianity, like Islam, originated in the Middle East . One might wonder why Islam, which sees itself as a continuation or fulfillment of Judeo-Christianity, is not subject to the same intense criticism.
