New Media Awards 2007 launched

The New Statesman launches New Media Awards 2007, in association with Atos Origin.

It would be pretty impossible to imagine life in 2007 without digital technology but just 10 or 15 years ago most of us didn't have access to the internet.

In fact I don't think I'd even heard of email until the mid-nineties. Today many of the possibilities of this new era of the web are clear for all to see. But back then there were just a few pioneers blazing the trail we now all walk on - including the New Statesman.

Our first ever New Media Awards were held in 1998 and they've gone from strength to strength ever since. Now we are urging you all to start nominating for this year's NMA which, as ever, seek to highlight the positive impact of new media technology on public life.

This year's categories are:

  • Contribution to civic society
  • Modernising government
  • Elected representative
  • Education
  • Information and openness
  • Advocacy
  • Young innovator

Our judges will be looking for evidence that new technologies have been applied in a creative manner to the benefit of others. So please click on this link and get nominating.

And don't forget to have a look at newstatesman.com to find out why our page views have gone up by 150% in three months!

Entirely new and free to view we relaunched our website at the end of November. You can comment on any article and in the coming weeks and months we will be developing it as a place for you to come and debate key issues of the day.
