“Aberdeenshire business owner wins election”: Scottish local press is chill about Trump

A few local papers in Scotland have gone for a lower-key description of Donald Trump’s presidential win.

By Media Mole

Your mole loves the idea of the editors at the Buchan Observer, Fraserburgh Herald and Ellon Times seeing the outcome of the US election, hearing the shocked reactions from news networks and commentators worldwide, watching America writhing into one collective Edvard Munch Scream, and shrugging “nae bother”.

Here is their super-chill headline about the big day:

Screengrab, Buchan Observer.

It’s their top trending article as well.

The story is also beautifully low-key, describing Trump as the “owner of Trump International Golf Links at Balmedie”, and adding: “He has visited the area on several occasions, the most recent being earlier this year.”

It also outlines how his mother grew up “in a simple croft” in Stornoway before moving to Manhattan.

But perhaps the best part of the story is this comment beneath it:

“Fa is this kwine Hillary? Is she local tae? There’s ae lass cried Hillary in oor post-office. Wis it her?”

Well, wis it?
