Labour launch registration push: “Take a hold of your future, or someone else will“

As the latest ONS figures show 830,000 people falling off the electoral register, Labour release a non-partisan video urging people to register to vote.

Labour have released a non-partisan video urging people to register to vote in the wake of new figures from the Office of National Statistics showing more than 830,00 electors falling off the register. The total number of registered voters in 2014 was 45,325,100, a fall of 1.8 per cent from 2013. The deadline for registration is this coming Monday.

On Tuesday, as part of the party’s BME manifesto, Sadiq Khan, the shadow Justice Secretary, announced that a Labour government will bring in a system of auto-registration. Instead of having to fill in a form or go online to register to vote, local authorities would use data in their possession as well as those of government departments to add those eligible to vote to the electoral register.
