FAQs

Subscribing to the New Statesman

I would like to become a subscriber – where do I need to go?

The easiest way to subscribe is online. Please visit our website for all subscription options.

What details will I need to give you?

To set up your New Statesman subscription, we will ask you to provide the following:

– Email address

– First and last name

– Billing and delivery addresses (for subscriptions that include our print magazine)

– Payment information (Debit/credit card or bank account details)

What is included in my New Statesman subscription?

If you purchase a Print subscription, you’ll receive the weekly magazine delivered straight to your door.

Our Digital subscription includes full and unlimited access to newstatesman.com; instant magazine access, before it hits the newsstand, via the NS app for iOS and Android; early access to New Statesman podcasts; early bird and discounted tickets to NS events.

Our Print & Digital subscription includes all of the above.

How many issues will I receive as part of my print subscription?

The New Statesman is published weekly, so an annual subscription includes 52 issues.

We also publish three special issues throughout the year during Spring, Summer and at Christmas. These are larger in size and can cover up to 3 or 4 weeks of your subscription. Please note that the number of weeks that these special issues cover is subject to change.

When will I get my first issue?

Your digital subscription will start immediately. As soon as you receive your confirmation email, you can log into your account and enjoy our digital journalism.

Your print subscription will start with the next available issue. Our magazine is published on a Friday, so if your subscription order reaches us by Monday night, you will receive that Friday’s magazine. If you subscribe after Monday night, you will receive the magazine published on Friday of the following week.

Magazines are sent out every Thursday via Royal Mail 1st Class. For more information on delivery aims, click here.

Can I start my subscription at a date in the future?

Yes.

After you’ve given us your delivery details, we’ll ask you to select a start date. Please follow the guidance of the last FAQ for determining when you will receive your first issue.

Can I purchase a gift subscription?

Yes.

When choosing which subscription you’d like to buy, you’ll see a check box that says ‘Click here if this is a gift subscription’. You can then input the delivery address for the recipient of the magazine.

For gift subscriptions that include digital access, you will also be asked to ‘add gift recipient email’ and enter a message to be sent to the recipient.

How can I pay?

You can pay for your subscription either by debit/credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) or by Direct Debit.

Card transactions are processed by Stripe and secured with SSL encryption. Read Stripe’s privacy policy here.

Direct Debit payments are processed by GoCardless and are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. Read the GoCardless privacy notice here.

When will I be charged?

When paying by card, transactions are processed immediately. If you choose a future start date, however, you will be charged on this date.

When setting up a Direct Debit, a payment schedule will be created immediately but payment will take at least 3 working days to clear. For more information on direct debit timings, please click here.

If I live outside the UK, can I still subscribe to the New Statesman?

Yes.

We provide international subscriptions for both print and digital options. Subscriptions are charged in EUR (€) for European subscribers and USD ($) for all other countries. Please visit our subscriptions homepage for more info.

Do you offer multi-user or group subscriptions at a discount?

How do I change the email address on my subscription?

You can change your email address by logging into ‘My Account’ and navigating to ‘My Profile’.

What is my subscription number?

We do not issue subscription numbers. The best way to identify your subscription is either by email address or postcode.

I didn’t receive last week’s issue. Do you know where it is?

While we try our best to get your magazine to you, sometimes they get lost or delayed in the post. We endeavour to deliver all UK copies by Monday after publication, although they usually reach you before. Please be sure to check your local postal service or the Royal Mail website for more information on how deliveries could be impacted.

If you are an international subscriber, please note deliveries may be delayed further due to customs delays, local postal measures in specific countries and reduced air transport capacity. Please check your country’s local postal service for more information.

A common cause of delays is if addresses are input incorrectly on our system. Please ensure your address is formatted correctly on your account, by visiting ‘My Account’ on the website. Select ‘Actions’ then ‘Manage’ and you can update both your delivery address.

If you haven’t received your regular subscription copy, please email us and we will send you a replacement.

If you are a digital and bundle subscriber you can also view the latest edition online in the magazine section and on our app.

Cancelling your subscription

If you wish to do so, you can cancel your subscription by contacting us via telephone on 01933 445151 (+44 1933 445151 from overseas).

If I decide to cancel my subscription, when will the cancellation take place?

Your subscription will be cancelled at the end of its current billing period.
