Global Covid-19 death rate rises after three days of falls

The number of new global deaths from Covid-19 rose on Tuesday after three days of falls. 6,998 new deaths were reported yesterday, up from 4,942 the day before.

However, the figure was still down significantly on same day last week, when 51,000 new deaths were recorded worldwide.

Total cases rose by 88,785 to 2.56 million.

France saw a slight decrease in its daily death tally, but the US, UK, Italy and Spain saw an uptick (see below).
