Stephen Bush appointed New Statesman special correspondent

By New Statesman

Stephen Bush is to become special correspondent at the New Statesman.

He will write for both the print magazine and NS website, ranging across politics and culture, and will continue to co-host the NS podcast

Bush joined the NS from the Telegraph in February 2015, where he worked on the Morning Briefing. As editor of the New Statesman’s rolling politics blog, the Staggers, he was the first commentator to call the Labour leadership race for Jeremy Corbyn and he also correctly predicted that Labour would fall short at the general election.

Bush assumes his new role as the New Statesman celebrates its strongest performance in decades, with record online traffic growth and print circulation at its highest for more than three decades.

Bush said: “I’m excited and delighted to be beginning a new chapter in my time at the New Statesman, which has a fantastic team of writers both in print and on the web. When I joined I think I said something about it being the most thrilling time in British politics – but with the election of Jeremy Corbyn and the European referendum,  the era of Ed Miliband versus David Cameron almost looks dull.”

Helen Lewis, New Statesman deputy editor, said: “Since joining the team, Stephen has proved himself to be one of the sharpest, funniest and most insightful commentators on the unpredictable and fast-changing world of contemporary British politics. His new role will give him a chance to report more deeply and develop as a writer.”
