WATCH: Anna Soubry attacks Brexiteers with “gold-plated pensions” and “inherited wealth”

MP likens European exit to “ideologically driven” unicorn hunt.

Anna Soubry caused a stir in the Commons on Monday by rounding on her Conservative colleagues and their blasé attitude towards a hard Brexit, likening potential foreign trade deals to “unicorns that our government will be chasing”.

She laid into party hardliners with “gold-plated pensions” and “inherited wealth” who are pushing through “their version of Brexit” with no regard for the “hundreds of thousands of jobs” that may be lost.

In a stunning display of awareness, Soubry showed the world that she has indeed noticed that Brexit is happening, and happening badly.

The low rumble of gold-plated chuckles from the back benches marked a moment in which no one changed their mind about anything.

At least when the Brexit car is unwrapped from around the lamppost in a year’s time Soubry can look back and say “I told you so”.
