Katy Perry is to perform at the opening of the Indian Premier League.

The IPL is valued at $3.67bn by the UK consultancy Brand Finance, having been valued at $2.01bn in its opening season in 2008. It is owned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and is one of the world’s fastest growing brands.

The BCCI promoted it as “cricketainment”, padding out the cricket with Bollywood celebrities, socialites, and business tycoons.
