Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher

The actress will play the former prime minister in the forthcoming biopic The Iron Lady.

By Duncan Robinson

Thatcher is back. Meryl Streep will play the former prime minister in the forthcoming biopic The Iron Lady, which has started filming this week in London. In make-up, there seems to be little between the Tory prime minister and the Academy Award-winning actress. Streep has the iconic Thatcher bouffant and the famous pearl necklace.

Streep caused a stir last month when she visited the Commons and watched David Cameron take on Ed Miliband at Prime Minister’s Questions. Jim Broadbent has been confirmed as Thatcher’s long-suffering husband, Denis.
