Blair says WMDs were the key issue

But were they?

Speaking at the Chilcot inquiry this morning, Tony Blair said that the absolute “key issue”, back in 2002/03, was the “WMD issue”.

But how does this square with Alastair Campbell’s diary entry for 2 April 2002?

We discussed whether the central aim was WMD or regime change . . . TB felt it was regime change in part because of WMD but more broadly because of the threat to the region and the world.
