Greedy Tories

In their own words...

By Mehdi Hasan

Here is a “senior Tory” quoted in the Guardian this morning, commenting on speculation that a Prime Minister Cameron would cut ministerial salaries from £144,520 to a meagre £124,581:

The thinking for most was that we would give up our second jobs until after the election, only a few months, and in that period get a loan to cover the lost earnings. But David’s plans for after the election have changed that and some of us are wondering whether we can still afford to be in politics. I have friends who are senior lawyers or work in the City and they are earning much more than me.

And here, of course, are the now-infamous comments from Alan Duncan, shadow leader of the Commons, as revealed – and secretly filmed – by activist Heydon Prowse:

No one who has done anything in the outside world will ever come into this place ever again, the way we are going.”

Is it any wonder that so many of us think the Tories haven’t changed at all, despite the rebranding and sugar-coating exercise under David Cameron, and that they’re still basically a bunch of rich, greedy, arrogant, out-of-touch elitists?
