The case of Delwar Hossein Sayeedi

By New Statesman

Those wondering why this blog has been silent for so long should watch Channel 4 tomorrow night at 7.30pm to see my programme about the government’s relationship with radical Islam. This has been taking all my time.

The Foreign Office has been putting pressure on Channel 4 to remove sections of the programme. They were concerned about references to is a Bangladeshi MP called Delwar Hossein Sayeedi, who has called for the death of US troops in Iraq. Despite repeated requests the FCO has refused to confirm whether he has been granted a visa. Now I know why they were so worried: he is due to speak at a rally in east London this weekend and at the East London Mosque.

For more on Mr Sayeedi please watch the programme and meanwhile have a look at the section on him in my Policy Exchange pamphlet When Progressives Treat with Reactionaries. Also worth visiting is the Drishtipat blog.
