The End of the Party by Andrew Rawnsley

Andrew Rawnsley's The End of the Party: the Rise and Fall of New Labour (Viking, £25) appeared just before the start of the general election campaign, and the new paperback edition (Penguin, £12.99) brings the story up to date with Brown's eviction from office. Just as some people stand transfixed but horrified in front of a cage of beautiful, poisonous snakes at the zoo, I couldn't put the book down.

Previous book: Toby Litt
