Independent's Patrick Cockburn wins 'Peace Through Media Award'

Award convenor Dalia Salaam described his coverage of the Middle East as "incredible."

The Independent's foreign correspondent and commentator Patrick Cockburn has been named for the "Peace Through Media Award" for his coverage of Middle East issues, reports the Independent.

The prize was awarded by the International Council for Press and Broadcasting and the charity Next Century Foundation, at the sixth International Media Awards ceremony at the House of Lords in London on Saturday.

The aim of the award is to recognise journalists and broadcasters who have a good understanding of Middle East politics, and to promote awareness among people through the quality of their work. Cockburn won high praise from the judges who described him as a renowned commentator and an authority on Iraq and its politics.
