  1. Garcia defends Rock’s single sky inclusion

Gibraltar Chronicle reports: “Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia yesterday met with EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc and the Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu as part of what officials said was a hectic schedule of meetings and media engagements in Brussels. Dr Garcia explained the position of the Government of Gibraltar to Commissioner Bulc in relation to the inclusion of Gibraltar Airport in EU civil aviation measures. He made the point that Gibraltar has been a part of Europe since 1973 and EU aviation legislation had always applied without question until soon after Spain joined.”

  1. Gibraltar joins environmental union

Gibraltar Chronicle reports: “Gibraltar’s Department of the Environment is one of 13 new members who were last week welcomed into the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) the world’s largest global environmental network.”

  1. Michael Llamas QC appointed Attorney General

GBC News reports: “Michael Llamas QC has been appointed Attorney General in Gibraltar. He will take over from Ricky Rhoda QC later on in the year. Mr Llamas has been appointed by the Governor, acting on the advice and recommendations of the Specified Appointments Commission, in accordance with the constitution.”

UEFA reports: “Gibraltar made their second entry into the UEFA European Futsal Championship last week when participating in UEFA Futsal EURO 2016 preliminary round Group A.Results may have gone against Peter Moreno's team – with defeats by Greece (3-0), hosts Bulgaria (3-1) and Denmark (9-1) in Blagoevgrad – yet this second competitive assignment for the side from the Rock was an invaluable experience nonetheless.”
