ITV acquires rights for IPL

ITV has acquired the rights to broadcast the 45-day long Indian Premier League (IPL) that begins on

The broadcaster will air 59 out of 60 live matches on ITv4. ITV will not telecast the second match on 4 April between Delhi dare Devils and Bangalore Royal Challengers in Delhi. It clashes with British Touring Car racing from Thruxton, which ITV4 had already committed to show.

The tournament will be supported by a prominent marketing campaign on ITV.

Coverage will be presented by Matt Smith with Indian actress and presenter Mandira Bedi who has hosted the Cricket World Cup coverage in India.

Lalit Modi, the chairman and commissioner of the IPL, reportedly said he was delighted the IPL tournament will be broadcast on a free-to-air channel.
