The news has just broken that Andrew Bridgen, the Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman.

Bridgen was arrested in the early hours of this morning at an address in SW1 and has now been bailed. It's currently unclear whether he will be suspended by the Conservatives. It is understood the woman was an employee on the parliamentary estate, but not in Bridgen's office.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault against a 29-year-old woman at an address in SW1 in the early hours of Thursday 9 June. The man has been bailed to return to a date in mid-July."

A spokesman for the Conservative Party said: "This is a matter for the police."
