Ford to unveil redesigned model on Facebook

Automaker to launch new car exclusively online.

Ford is launching an all-day online event on 26 July on Facebook to reveal its redesigned 2011 Ford Explorer.

The automaker will also display the model at offline events across the nation. But this marks the first time that a car manufacturer is forgoing an auto show to unveil a model on the social networking site.

Ford has released teaser photographs and videos on the networking site, some of which have virtual walk-arounds that mimic the experience of being at an actual auto expo.

The event will be a comprehensive online show that extends beyond Facebook, and will involve several other web-centric elements, said Ford's social media head Scott Monty.

The automaker said that after the Facebook page scores 30,000 "likes", it will give away one 2011 Explorer to a fan on the social network.
