Donald Trump has said the White House coronavirus taskforce will remain in place, despite claiming that it would be disbanded 24 hours ago.

The president has backtracked on that thought, and said in a series of posts on Twitter that the group had done a “fantastic job” and would “continue on indefinitely”.

Trump said that the taskforce would now turn its attention to reopening the US economy and easing lockdown measures, despite the fact the US currently has 1.2 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 and in excess 71,000 related deaths – more than any other country in the world.
