The Spanish government will make face masks compulsory in streets where people cannot safely stay two metres apart.
Face masks are currently compulsory on public transport and in taxis, but the rules will be extended to cover all enclosed public spaces, as well as outdoor areas where a two-metre distance can’t be guaranteed.
The rules bring the country in line with Germany, France, Poland and Austria, which have made masks compulsory in virtually all public areas. In the UK, face coverings are merely advised in enclosed spaces and on public transport.
