The American musician Prince has died at the age of 57, according to his publicist.
His body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound, where his studio is, in Minnesota early this morning, US time.
His death follows reports that the singer – whose full name is Prince Rogers Nelson – suffered a medical emergency last week, when his private jet had to make an emergency landing in Illinois. He had been suffering from severe flu for weeks, and his plane had to be diverted to get him treatment. He went on to perform in a concert the next day, but had cancelled two shows prior to this performance.
A hit machine, Prince sold over 100m records, won seven Grammys, and one Oscar for Best Original Song Score for the 1985 film Purple Rain.
