Russian logic

Sorrel Neuss implies that Kyrgyzstan's government does not know what is good for the country (Letter from Kyrgyzstan, 16 February). But it was the Russians who helped the US to establish the airbase in Kyrgyzstan in the first place. Russia now has a golden opportunity to turn the tables on the Americans after the collapse of the US supply line to Afghanistan via Pakistan. Given that the countries of central Asia are now firmly under Russian influence, and the only viable routes are via either Russia or Iran, which of these two will be diplomatically less of an embarrassment? The Kremlin seems to think that it is the Russian option.
