Labour, Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East
A former history don at St Hugh's College, Oxford, Gregg McClymont attracted the attention of Ed Miliband, who appointed him as an assistant whip early this year. He cut his political teeth as chair of Scottish Labour Students and as a speechwriter to the then cabinet minister John Reid. McClymont was elected as the MP for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East in May 2010 with a majority of 13,755. His policy interests include child poverty and the Royal Mail. Some of Labour's biggest beasts - Gordon Brown, Robin Cook, Donald Dewar, Alistair Darling, Reid - have come from north of the border. McClymont looks like a good bet to follow them.
