UK media slams Melbourne for cleaning up British street art
Melbourne city council staff labelled "blundering bureaucrats."
By New Statesman Published 29 April 2010The officials covered up the sketch by the famous British stencil artist Banksywhile removing graffiti in Hosier Lane in central Melbourne.
The sketch is apparently the only remaining work by the artist, the Melbourne Leader reported on Wednesday. The incident made headlines in many major UK publications. Melbourne's Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has invited Banksy to come back to the city. He said he would even consider commissioning some artwork to the artist.
