300,000 Android phones activated daily, says Google
Android recently became the second most widely used smartphone platform in the US
More than 300,000 smartphones running on Google's Android software are activated daily, Google vice-president Andy Rubin said on Wednesday.
Rubin's tweet about Android phones is an attempt by the search company to show how its phones are doing in the mobile market, media reports said.
Two months ago, Google chief executive Eric Schmidt announced that the rate of Android handset activations averaged 200,000 a day.
The Android mobile operating system beat Apple's iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry in the third quarter to become the second biggest smartphone platform in the US, research firm Gartner reported in November.
Sales of Android phones soared to 20.5 million units, giving the platform a 25.5 per cent market share, up from just 3.5 percent a year ago, the Gartner report added
