AOL suspends online sports columnist

Jay Mariotti suspended after his arrest following a "domestic incident" last week

AOL announced on Thursday that it has suspended its FanHouse columnist Jay Mariotti, after he was arrested last week.

FanHouse is AOL's sports website.

Mariotti was arrested in Los Angeles following a "domestic incident", police officer Norma Eisenman told the Associated Press.

He was allegedly arguing with his girlfriend at a Santa Monica club, when things got violent. He reportedly manhandled her, leaving marks on her arms, the Los Angeles Times reported.

AOL spokesperson Caroline Campbell said the site will not feature any new work from the writer.

Mariotti had been a long-time columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times before moving to Los Angeles. He is also a panellist on the ESPN's sports discussion show "Around the Horn".
