A piece of cake

A slice of Princess Diana's wedding cake found in a Furzedown attic fetched more than £1,000 at auction on Tuesday.

Former royal servant Moyra Smith kept it faithfully for 27 years until her death, when her family decided to give it a good home.

Her husband, Don, said: "It is just as beautiful as the day Moyra wrapped it up in clingfilm."

The cake was expected to reach between £3,000 and £20,000, but fetched just £1,200.

Vive la même chose

While it is true that China and the UK belong to different civilisations and have different historic and cultural traditions, different levels of economic development and social systems, China and the UK share much in common . . . for instance, a mechanism of annual exchanges of visits between Premier and Prime Minister has been established: and task forces on both sides have identified key areas of co-operation.
