Ambulances clamped

An NHS hospital has begun wheel-clamping and fining its ambulances. Managers say the vehicles have been parking for too long in ambulance bays.

On one occasion a man was forced to take his sick neighbour to King's College Hospital in south-east London in his own car after being told there were no services available. He arrived to see "a row of clamped ambulances".

The NHS trust has a contract with the private firm Caring For You, and a spokesman for the King's College Hospital trust said Caring For You had been issued with parking guidelines.

"Unfortunately, some drivers have been leaving vehicles in drop-off bays for longer than the permitted time," he added.

Health and safety

Children have been banned from taking part in sack and three-legged races due to health and safety fears. Teachers from John F Kennedy Primary were concerned that a child could fall over and get hurt.
